Where Creativity Becomes the Path to Recovery
Healing Arts for Recovery is a nonprofit initiative built on a simple belief: creative expression can be a powerful part of the recovery journey. Through music and art therapy, individuals in early sobriety gain new tools to process emotions, rebuild identity, and reconnect with purpose. Our program removes financial barriers that often prevent people from accessing these therapies.

Our Mission

Healing Arts for Recovery exists to expand access to music and art therapy for individuals recovering from substance use disorders. We support participants by helping remove financial barriers that prevent consistent engagement in these therapies, while also providing structured support during the critical early stages of sobriety.

At the same time, our program serves as a research initiative designed to generate real-world evidence about the role of creative therapies in addiction recovery. By documenting outcomes and participant experiences, we aim to help inform policymakers, healthcare leaders, and communities about more effective and human-centered approaches to recovery.

Why Creative Therapies Matter

Recovery is not only about stopping substance use, it is about rebuilding a healthy and meaningful life. Music and art therapy can play an important role in that process by helping individuals explore emotions, reduce stress, and reconnect with a sense of identity and purpose. Creative therapies provide a form of expression that often reaches experiences that words alone cannot. For many people in recovery, these approaches increase engagement in treatment and provide lasting tools for emotional regulation and resilience.

How the Program Works

  • Emotional expression when words are difficult
  • Stress reduction and improved emotional regulation
  • Identity rebuilding and personal growth
  • Greater engagement in treatment and recovery activities

Program support includes

  • Financial assistance for music and art therapy sessions
  • Recovery Bonuses – direct cash payments – for verified sobriety
  • Guidance from case management professionals
  • Freedom to choose their own treatment providers

Our Vision for Change

Healing Arts for Recovery is designed not only to support individuals today, but also to help shape the future of addiction treatment. By carefully tracking participation, outcomes, and recovery progress, our program generates meaningful real-world data about the effectiveness of music and art therapy combined with supportive incentives (contingency management).

Our goal is to share these insights with researchers, healthcare systems, and policymakers so that creative therapies can become more widely accessible and recognized as valuable components of comprehensive recovery care. When recovery programs evolve, more people gain access to the tools that help them heal.
